Layers of the Soul

I take a moment to turn within.

I become aware that there is more to me than this body and the various roles I play in this body. I realise that I am a living energy within this body making the body work. In this consciousness I am able to use the inner eye to see what is going on inside.

The first layer that I see is that of my thoughts. Constantly flowing thoughts: positive thoughts, negative thoughts, angry thoughts and waste thoughts. Many, many thoughts.
If I have the courage to move on beyond this layer and go deeper within then I discover a layer of feelings and experiences from the past that I have stored and kept safely. These are silently sleeping memories which are triggered from time to time with my senses. Once triggered they will activate the thought layer into action generating uncontrolled thoughts, resulting in even more feelings.

The deepest layer of the soul is that of awareness. It is the core belief and understanding I have of who and what I am and the reason for my existence. Everything that I do is rooted in awareness and my awareness, in any given moment, will dictate my behaviour and experience of that scene.

If I am able to sit in the awareness of being a soul, then the whole of what I see, do and thus experience will change.
The meaning of life itself will change. Try it and see.

Om Shanti

I appreciate that you are trying to address the soul. But these all roles and layers you mentioning are not on Soul. Mind is doing all these activities. Innocent soul is trapped by Mind and Mind is working as Maan( feeling), Budhi (Decission ), Chit ( thinking) and Aankhaar ( Proud). Mind has five soldiers as Ego, sex, attachment, anger, greed. Soul is trapped in this body by mind (mann) and illusion ( maya). Simply if you replace the word Soul with Mind will be digestiveable.

      Hello Sumeet,
I guess it is a question of perceptive. For me the soul is made up of a number of things, one being the mind. All the none physical aspects of ourselves, which leave the body when we die are contained in the soul. The mind is different to the brain, which a physical organ of the body.
The soldiers you talk about are basically the vices which pollute the soul and make it think, decide, behave and feel in a very different way – it becomes influenced by the vices. The whole aspect of enlightenment is then to awaken from this sleep of ignorance and empower the soul (the mind intellect etc..) to overpower the influence of the vices.

As I mentioned, this is my own understanding. Each one has a right to see and understand things in their own way.

      Hope this helps.
      Kind regards

Well, there are a low mind related to the brain, and a higher mind too, this last, as you said, is related to the soul. Positive thoughts, negative thoughts, angry thoughts and waste thoughts are produced by the low mind. The soul can’t produce anything negative, as the Sun can’t produce darkness. So the problem is, as you said, our soul are dreaming, and we are confused about out true nature. To be enlighted means to recognize ourselves as souls, not minds.
