The Devil’s Workshop

devil_workshop

‘An idle mind is the devil’s workshop.’

I have heard this saying many times and yet how often am I aware of what is going on in my mind?

Actions are the result of the thoughts. If the mind remains occupied in positive and constructive thoughts, then I will certainly experience that in terms of positivity in my attitude, feeling, words and actions.

It needs constant attention and control of the mind to ensure that I don’t let the devil in. When there is nothing specific to think about, or I become lazy about cultivating good thoughts, then, like an unattended garden, the mind will become full of weeds. These weeds, over time, will outgrow any flowers that may wish to grow and the beauty and joy of the garden will be lost.

I must remain occupied checking the thoughts being created in the mind as these are the seeds that will result in the fruit of my experiences in life tomorrow.

Check, am I consciously planting healthy and positive seeds in my mind or am I allowing the devil to plant his seeds.

Beauty and the Beast

beauty_beast

When I look in the mirror what do I see? Who do I see?

Do I see the beauty within with all the values and qualities that I have? Or do I see faults and disappointments and a person that I would rather not be?

In fact we all have a ‘beauty’ and a ‘beast’ within each one of us. The beauty is that which is originally and eternally all that I am: the perfect soul, clean and pure. The beast is the personality that I have acquired along the way. The negative habits I have formed to help me win the game of life – anger, greed and the ever hungry ego.

If, with total faith and trust, my awareness is rooted in my original and eternal beauty, the fearsome form of the beast will transform itself in its presence. I need the courage to accept and face the beast that is present. It is not something to fear or be ashamed of but something to understand and see in perspective.

Then life will no longer be a battle between the beauty and the beast, but will become a story of love and transformation.

Attraction

We spend so much time, money and energy to be ‘attractive’. We know it is ‘artificial’ beauty, yet still do it.

The underlying reason is that it makes us feel good about ourselves, we feel it gives us respect, we believe it will make us more loved, etc… However physical beauty is only the surface and over time the physical body cannot sustain this ‘feeling good’ factor.

What is needed is to realise and experience the beauty that exists within: our own inner beauty. Then our attraction and our ‘feeling good’ factor can come from a place that can be sustained. We need to experience the original and eternal qualities that are present within the soul. Then others will also see and experience them.

Spiritual beauty is very attractive. Spiritual beauty is empowering for the self and others.
