The Magnet

InheritenceThe relationship with the Supreme is often likened to a magnet. His power is such that it can draw and connect souls to Him easily. Just as a needle is drawn and connected to the magnet without effort.

However for this to happen the soul must be clean and free from rust. If rust has developed on the soul then no matter how powerful the magnet it will not be able to pull the soul. The connection will not happen.

The rust that develops on the soul, over time, begins when it starts to identify itself with the body. When body consciousness develops, the soul, starts to use the vices such as greed, attachment and anger for it’s ‘survival’ in the world. These vices are the the rust that slowly covers the soul completely until it forgets it was ever a soul at all.

Soul is an energy which is eternal and imperishable and therefore there is no need for ‘survival’ and no need for the vices.

As, I the soul, wake up to this reality and allow it to manifest practically into my life, the rust will begin to lift and I become available and attracted to the Supreme Magnet again.

Seed of Thought

2015-04-20_0807_001

We often describe thoughts as seeds because from one thought many more thoughts are generated. These thoughts go on to determine our words and actions.

If we step back and observe these thoughts, then we start to understand that the thoughts we are generating are our creation. So then the question that arises is ‘What is the seed behind my thoughts?’ ‘What is it within the self that initiates the thought in the first place?’

The seeds that create thoughts are the desires that we hold within our hearts. The ‘wants’ and ‘needs’ we have.

When we look closely within we will find that behind much of our thinking are feelings. When we are in touch with those feelings we will discover our ‘needs’ and ‘wants’ – the ‘desires’ that are the seeds behind those thoughts.

There are the physical needs for sure but even more powerful are the subtle needs of love, respect, power, authority, popularity, belonging and so forth. These then become the foundation from which thoughts are born and actions created. To varying degrees we all experience, at some time, fear, worry, anxiety. All these are born through desire!

What type of desires should I have to ensure the thoughts and feelings that emerge are positive and benevolent?

Contentment

contentment

Contentment is a power as well as a virtue.

As a virtue it allows me to be generous and free. As a power it makes be stand tall and complete, without the need for support.

I feel discontent when there are still unfulfilled ‘needs’ within the self. Emotional needs as well as physical needs.
Then when obstacles prevent me from fulfilling those ‘needs’ it causes upheaval inside and out. It is the subtle fear and insecurity of potentially being deprived.

Like a half filled jar of marbles, the slightest movement on the outside will cause disruption and noise on the inside.

To develop contentment I need to see benefit in everything that comes to me. It will free me from expectations and allow me to be flexible and internally satisfied.

Contentment is the key to remaining stable in the face of external challenges as I have nothing to gain and nothing to lose: I am already full.
